Astrology is the study of the effects of the planets and some celestial bodies upon people, events and history on Earth.
The position of all these planets is drawn in a diagram called a horoscope and an Astrologer synthesizes and interprets intuitively its meaning to understand the nature of the person, place or event and to forecast the way ahead while understanding the past.
Astrology is a tool for understanding who we are and where we are going based upon thousands of years of accumulated observation and wisdom.

Nowadays, the circular horoscope chart is used by most astrologers. In it, the outer circle marks the Zodiac, which is simply a coordinate system for the ecliptic plane - not a picture of the star configurations with the same names. Each of the twelve Zodiac signs is 30° of the total 360° circle. Inside of that circle, the positions of the planets are marked. Also, there is the twelve part division of the astrological Houses.


There are several ways of dividing the horoscope chart into Houses. The oldest one is called equal house, where each House is the same 30° size. This was used by Ptolemy. Later systems, such as Placidus, Regiomontanus, Koch and Campanus, use differing sizes of the Houses.
Inside the circle, aspects are marked by lines between planets.

Ptolemy used five aspects - con­junction 0°, opposition 180°, trine 120°, square 90°, and sextile 60°. I use the same, whereas many other astrologers use additional aspects, such as the semi-sextile 30° and the quincunx 150°.

CHINESE ASTROLOGY

According to Chinese astrology, the year of birth tells not only your age but also INdicates a certain phase or aspect of a sixty year circle of time.

Legend has it that Chinese Astrology and the order of the twelve animals that define it was determined thousands of years ago by Lord Buddha himself. According to ancient scripts, Buddha realized that the Chinese nation needed a reorganization. So on the occasion of the Chinese New Year (which occurs on different dates from mid-January to mid-February), Buddha called upon the entire animal kingdom for a meeting. But only twelve animals (rat, buffalo, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and boar) showed up for this meeting.

Buddha then honored them in the order of their arrival by endowing upon them with a year of their own. From then on, each successive year of the Chinese calendar bore that character of the animal that gave it a name and so, those born in specific animal years are marked by the nature of their natal animal.

Yet, all people born in the same animal are not the same literally and do differ from each other in certain aspects. These differences are determined by the various elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each of these elements distinguishes one person of the same animal from the other.

In Chinese system of astrology, each year begins early in the calendar year on a new moon and relates to one of the twelve animals. Their qualities "animate" the year and color it with their distinct natures.

Therefore you may find yourself born in the year of Rat or a horse or even a dragon as the lore says it. People born in a particular animal year share certain common traits in the same manner as people born in common zodiac do.

Thus it is necessary to know not only about the astrological relevance of different types of animals which represent the years but also about the methods used to predict the future in Chinese astrology.
